My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This was a relatively short, easy to read book that has a lot of good qualities.
I found that in the beginning, for the first few chapters leastways, this book reminded me of others I had read in the same genre. After it gets going, there were a few strange transitions and over the top happenings, but it was entertaining.
The characters are interesting and I can see them being able to grow throughout this series, although oddly, the main character was not my favourite. Perhaps as the series moves forward she will grow into someone that I can relate to more.
I liked the way the author described her setting and the visual qualities she gave this book. It was not hard to imagine standing there amongst the characters and that made it seem more realistic.
The relationships between the characters are pretty dramatic and gives a good set up for the next book.
I would not say that all adults will enjoy this book, but for the intended age group, I think this might be a winner.
