A shuddering breath parts my lips
loneliness belies the truth
a snake coiling over my belly
and past my unadorned hips
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ
The darkness casts a shadow
renouncing light imposingly
I reach for an apparition
A phantom specter no longer here
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โก
Peering around this tidal wave
a perilous sea of obsidian
memories of what we were once
tendrils of smoke my only friend
ย ย ย ย ย ย โ
prisms of pain fall from my eyes
from behind my starless gaze
striated and notched this heart
repeats a simple phrase
ย ย ย ย ย ย โ
“I need you” it whispers
with no reply I come undone
then settle into solitude
with bitter realisation

This one hits right in the heart. Always such raw emotion in your poems.

Ever just be sitting and all of a sudden you get a rush of some unexplained emotion you have to bleed out on paper or you fear you will break?

Very often. Almost like it was lurking in the shadows and waiting for me to let my guard down.

This is haunting and beautiful at the same time. And so very true. The words speak to the heart which I am certain is from whence they came. I always enjoy your poetry.

Ah, remember it’s not just tendrils of smoke; i.e. don’t forget the squirrels. ๐

Another beautiful poem that captures so perfectly those emotions that separation creates. You are never alone though, I am always in your heart, until I can be there with you.

I so agree. They are cruel and malicious. We will always overcome them though, knowing we will be together.
